Martin Luther King Jr. a great leader in trying to accomplish equal rights. Through non-violent action he succeeded in achieving equal rights for both the white and black community. His letter from Birmingham jail addresses many of these issues, he talks about the things that both worked and did not work. Basically his main goal was spreading the word of the need for change within society. To try and get a better life for the black community. When i looked at this painting by Juane Quick-to-See Smith there was no immediate connection. Then as i started to read the meaning behind the painting the connection was obvious. The painting of a bear surrounded by its fellow Native American creatures. In the caption of the painting the bear says, "I go from one community with messages from the other, and I try to enlighten people." This is to enhance the awareness of the "bears" problems from community to community. Both this "bear" and MLK jr. are both trying to spread the word in attempt to help their people.
